Catholic Education Week: Growing Together in Faith
Catholic schools are Catholic communities.  Catholic schools are faith communities.  We – parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in faith which we received at our Baptism.  And it is the "together" that we grow.  And as we learn from nature, growth relies on sun and water and nutrition.  Otherwise, it may fade away and even die.  Our growth is primarily a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called us by name.  But the response of each of us to that growth is both personal and communal.  We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community be that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community.

Please join us on Wednesday, May 8th at St. John the Baptist Church as we celebrate our Education Week mass with St. Bernard.  Thank you to Mrs. Verardi (Campus Ministry –Villanova) and the leadership students for organizing the Liturgy.
It will take place at 1:15 p.m.

1. In the event of a community incident that requires a school to be locked down, the community's police service will maintain a direct communications link with the school's administration.
2. During a police-directed lockdown no person will be admitted to the building or permitted to leave the building until the police service ends the lockdown.
3. All area radio stations have agreed to broadcast updates every 30 minutes during police-directed lockdowns.
4. Parents will be advised via the radio stations when the lockdown is terminated.
Staff and students will practice the Lockdown Drill this spring.  Classroom teachers will explain the protocol prior to our practice. The school drill is part of our Emergency and Crisis Response Plan.

May- June '13 - Sun Protection: What You Need to Know

To help protect you and your children from sunburns:
  •     Apply sunscreen generously. Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with a Sun Protective Factor (SPF) 15 or higher. Apply it 15      to 30 minutes before going outside.Re-apply sunscreen at least every two hours especially after being in the water or doing activities             that cause sweating
  •    Wear a wide brimmed hat. Baseball hats don't cover the ears and neck area.
  •    Wear sunglasses with UV protection.
  •     Protect arms and legs with tightly woven, dark, loose fitting clothing.
Remember: Reduce exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you're outside during this time, seek or create shade with trees, an awning, or an umbrella.
