January News

May the New Year 2013 bring continued blessings of good health, peace and prosperity to our community. We look forward to an exciting year filled with new opportunities to learn and grow for our students. Let Jesus guide us in our daily lives just as the star led the Three Wise Men to the Infant Jesus.

Catholic School Advisory Council
The next meeting of the School Advisory Council will take place on Tuesday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. at Stella Maris School.  All parents are welcome to attend.

Signing-In Procedures
Signing-in procedures are not unique to Stella Maris School but are mandated by the Ministry of Education of Ontario for all schools.  All visitors must sign-in when entering a school, including parents.  This is not an option but a requirement. Once a person has signed-in, this does not mean that they are free to roam the hallways.  This is not a sign of unfriendliness or being unwanted but a precaution of guaranteed safety for all children. Remember you are a stranger to many children in the school. Knowing who is in the building at all times insures safety for your children. Please wait at the office and your needs will be addressed.  Your patience and cooperation is requested

BRR- Cold Weather
It is so important that children be dressed appropriately in the winter months but especially when the weather reaches dangerously cold points.
Weather conditions are monitored very closely by the school administration.  When weather conditions are within the range of  –11 to –14 degrees or lower the children will not be sent outside for recess.  Factors such as sunshine, wind chills, etc. are also taken into consideration when deciding to send children outside.

Pizza Wednesdays
Beginning January 16th we will be selling pizza slices from Dominos.  The cost will be $1.50 per slice.  Orders must be placed on Monday. A note will be coming home in the new year.

Stella Maris Toy Drive

Once again the staff and students at Stella Maris have helped make Christmas a little brighter for families in our community by contributing to our annual Christmas Toy Drive.  Members from the Church community, St. Vincent de Paul Society, picked up the gifts the last week of school in December.  This gave them plenty of time to distribute the gifts to the families, in time for Christmas. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.
